Fadlallah insists crisis is political, not sectarian

Senior Shiite cleric Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah said on Sunday that the year-long political standoff in Lebanon does not have "sectarian connotations, but rather political ones." "The current crisis in Lebanon is not due to tensions between the Sunnis and the Shiites, even if the relationship tying those two sects has suffered recently due to rumors being spread all over the place," Fadlallah's statement said. Fadlallah urged feuding political groups not to resort to sectarian means or "spur feelings of hatred between Muslims or between Christians and Muslims." "Sectarian strife can have drastic repercussions on all the Lebanese," Fadlallah said. The cleric also warned against foreign intervention in Lebanese domestic affairs. "It is this incessant and public bickering taking place among various groups which has drawn the attention of foreign powers and paved the way for their interference," Fadlallah said. thefactnews.com
